Chiropractic adjustment

Dr. Petersen will perform various chiropractic manipulations, spinal manipulation, or manual manipulation as common therapeutic treatments for upper back pain, lower back pain and extremity pain.

Massage

Dr. Petersen may massage the soft tissues in the neck, back, shoulders, and extremities to assist with improving the circulation, reduce swelling and inflammation that are associated with the pain, and encourage quicker recovering and healing.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is used to minimize muscle pain and uses sound waves that provide deep heat to the treated tissues. It also helps to reduce swelling and stiffness, can increase circulation, and helps break up scar tissue.

Electrical muscle stimulation

During your session for chiropractic therapy, Dr. Petersen may use Electrical muscle stimulation. This is when electrodes are placed on areas of the skin that send light electrical pulses to different areas of the body with the purpose of relieving back pain, decreasing muscle spasms and minimize inflammation.

Traction

During your chiropractic appointment Dr. Petersen may offer a chiropractic traction massage to stretch and massage the muscles in the neck and back. He may use non-surgical spinal decompression which will stretch the spine and decompress the discs to reduce the pressure on the nerve root system.

Pelvic stabilization

When Dr. Petersen notices any leg-length deficiency, flat feet and/or subtalar instability present with his patience, he may suggest a slight heel lift be placed inside the shoe on the short leg or corrective arch supports for stabilization to the pelvis.

Extremity adjusting

Dr. Petersen may perform diagnostics for musculoskeletal injuries in the extremities if you're experiencing specific joint pain. He will check all of your extremities to make sure their structure is in proper alignment as well.

Ergonomics

During the course of your chiropractic care, Dr. Petersen may recommend a few modifications such as a work station change that is applied at home and/or at work.

Patient education

Dr. Petersen may advise certain lifestyle modifications, including diet and nutritional programs, self-care and coping strategies, to the patient experiencing lower back pain and extremity pain.

Patient exercises

Dr. Petersen may provide his patients with detailed instructions for specific exercises that focus on stretching and strengthening the back.
